After finishing my Lagoon top by Kim Hargreaves, I had some lovely Wool and the Gang Tina Tape left over and definitely not enough to make another. But definitely enough to make a bag!
Let me tell you, this yarn is LUSH. Its shimmery and sparkly without being purposefully that way. So it was just dying to be made into an understated accessory for the festive season… with some added bling of course.
Now I won’t lie to you. I HATE beads. Love the effect, hate the actual application of them. You can thread them on (pain), sew them on (loathe this option), but what I enjoy doing is actually glue-gunning them on. So sue me. I mean, at least its quick and the beads stay on. I haven’t given instructions for where to sew the beads on, or how many, because I believe this is all personal taste. I like a bit of bling without taking an eye out…
Notes:
This hat is written in UK terms with US terms given in the Abbreviations section below.
No directions given for beading – this is all up to you and your personal tastes. You can read above about my ‘cheats’ method of applying beads.
Abbreviations:
Ch = Chain
St = stitch
Sts = stitches
SlSt = slip stitch
HTC = half treble crochet (US = half double crochet)
TC = treble crochet (US = double crochet)
BLO = Back loop only
BS = bobble stitch. Yarn over and pull through st so that you have three loops on your hook, next yarn over pull through the first TWO loops, yarn over insert hook in same stitch, yarn over pull through first two loops, yarn over insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through first two hoops, yarn over insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through first 2 loops, you should now have 5 loops total, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.) Do not ch1 at the end.
You will need:
- 5.5mm crochet hook (I use a KnitPro Waves hook which you can get here)
- 100-150 yards of Aran weight yarn. I used Tina Tape from Wool and the Gang in Lovely Lilac.
- Yarn Needle for those pesky ends! (These with big loops for eyes are my favourite add-on EVER!)
- Fat quarter of fabric (optional) for lining
- Beads

If lining the bag, you can either fasten off here or keep the stitch on your hook (if you feel comfortable enough to machine/hand sew your lining in without fastening off – a stitch marker can hold most things in place)
Line your bag at this point. I used a nice shimmery purple fabric so my bag wasn’t so see-through. This yarn is also super stretchy so try not to pull your bag tight when sewing in.
After lining (or not, as the case may be), fold along Row 15 of the bag (so that there is a visible flap) and slip stitch up the sides.
Et Voila! Your Paris Clutch Bag is complete. If you find it too ‘flimsy’ it will benefit from starching but the lining should make it heavy enough to keep by your side at any festive shindig you have lined up this season!
