Featured in Issue 58 of Crochet Now! Magazine, this was my first forray into designing for a magazine. The topic was Zesty Summer and I immediately jumped to thoughts of juicy watermelons and gin and tonics with a slice of lemon. And so the Juicy Fruity bags came into fruition (pun intended!)
Juicy Fruity Bags – English
THIS IS FOR THE DIGITAL PATTERN ONLY IN UK TERMS.
These fruity summery bags are perfect for beginner crocheters to add a pop of colour to their outfit!
The download includes patterns for both the Watermelon and Lemon bags.
I had originally started drafting the pattern for the bags out of my own stash using Scheepjes Cahlista– a lovely cotton 4ply; but when I pitched the idea to Jenny, the magazine editor, she made the suggestion of Rowan Cotton Glace instead – and I am so glad she did!
Rowan Cotton Glace is an amazing DK tightly spun cotton which is soft yet rigid, so it’s perfect for homewares and things that need some stability.
The colours are rich and vibrant and there’s a fair few to choose from – which make for a rich contrast in the details.
The bags are simply constructed and you’ll only need to know UK dc/US sc for the majority. Longer stitches come into play for the watermelon seeds, and gentle slip stitching for the lemon wedges. This bag is so adaptable to any citrus fruit and I am so excited to see the combinations you come up with!
