How my sisters simple comment about a Leek led me to find these awesome crazy crochet patterns.

LoveCrafts

I went out with A, my sister and her friend last night for Thai food. A and I ordered Aromatic Duck to share and I commented that I really liked the julienne leeks.

“LEEKS?!” was the first comment out of my sisters mouth, “these are onions!”
“Pretty sure they’re leeks!”
“Its hilarious you don’t know what you’re eating!”
“I’m going to ask the waitress”
“Please don’t embarrass yourself!”
Cue them all telling me how insane I was for thinking that the green slice of mysterious veg I was eating was a leek and not a spring onion.

We’ve all had similar conversations, maybe not in the leek-context, but there have been moments when we’ve doubted ourselves thanks to what someone else is saying to us. We get inside our own heads, and when someone tells us we’re crazy, we believe it especially if we have a mental health ailment already. It can knock our confidence and make us feel like outcasts.

Apple once published a campaign that praised ‘The Crazy Ones’, and with my never-ending train of muddled thoughts, I am definitely a member of this club- even when its not so positive. My depression sometimes makes me wackier, but rather than dwell on something I am looking at changing, I choose to embrace it as best as I can.

So, in order to celebrate, the crazy that some of us might feel from time to time, I’ve made a list of crochet patterns that celebrate the crazy. Check them out below!

1 – ZigZag Rainbow Cushion Cover by Sarah Murray

Chevrons! Rainbows! Buttons! It doesn’t get crazier than this! It’ll add a touch of brightness to your life when things might be a bit grey, and features a repetitive stitch for when you just want to switch off and not stress about counting all those stitches just right. Perfect pick me up!

This lovely cushion pattern is available as ‘pattern- only’ or as a kit with alllllll the Stylecraft yarns here.

2 – Bobble Stripe Blanket by Cygnet

Now, just because 2 rainbow patterns have featured in quick succession, doesn’t mean I think all rainbows are crazy. I just LOVE bobbles! Which is great, because bobbles feature ALL OVER this number- and you can change out the colours for any crazy combination you fancy!

Check out the pattern (and optional yarn kit) here.

3 – Crocheted Beach Top by Sirdar

I LOVE VARIEGATED YARN!!! But I can never find anything to make with it because sometimes the colours don’t fall where you’d like them to… until now! I love this light beach top, made with Sirdar Beachcomber. There’s nothing more satisfying than wearing your crazy yarn art – AND it comes with long and short sleeve options! Admittedly, this is still tame by way of wearable patterns.

Find the pattern for both the long and short sleeve version of this top here.

4 – Java Cushion by Leonie Morgan

If you ever used to watch ‘Alias’ then you’ll understand that this pattern is reminiscent of the Eye of Rambaldi.

But anyway…

HOW INSANELY CUTE IS THIS PATTERN?!

Its got a little bit of crochet, a little bit of sewing, but a lot of repeat, so its challenging without being all that tricky. The pattern’s a ‘little out there’ when paired with the awesome bright colour palette, but it’ll definitely add a splash of happiness to any home.

Get the pattern, yarn AND cushion pad here.

5 – Ripple Scarf by Cygnet

Once again, another pretty chevron pattern. And who doesn’t love a scarf?!
I think the fact that this uses a solid AND a variegated yarn is what draws my eye. Its a great spiral of colour- and fewer ends to weave in than if you were to do this with all solid yarns. Something to keep you warm as the winter nights draw in earlier perhaps?

Get the pattern or kit here.

I’d love to see your crazy crochet makes and hear your stories in the comments below. Sometimes speaking out is the best catharsis!

PS. They were leeks!

unintentionally, and I am stunned why this accident didn’t
took place earlier! I bookmarked it.
