To celebrate the birth of my friend Penney’s third bundle of joy, I’m rounding up my 7 favourite crochet baby blanket patterns. This list includes patterns I’ve made for babies, and patterns on my to-do list that have me going gaga!

Being an adopted aunty to so many little ones means there’s always plenty to crochet. Whether there’s a birthday, Christening, naming day, Christmas, baby shower or birth, I find I’ve always got a baby project on the go. But how I do love to whip up a quick pint-sized blanket for the extra miniature humans!

#1 – Rabbit Blankey by SewSewBaby

This was one for my Godson and I love that with a few colour changes I was able to make this into a Peter Rabbit-themed lovey with no real extra work! I love a quick granny square blanket anyway, but the addition of a little amigurumi makes this the perfect bedtime companion for any little angel!

#2 – Granny Meets Virus Blanket by Love, Aly

My friend loves this blanket I made for her under 1 year old as she says it’s reassuring that it’s got enough holes in it that she knows baby can breathe if she covers her face with the blanket, and big enough holes that little digits won’t get caught in the fibres.

I think it’s super elegant, in part thanks to its simplicity, but also because it takes two classic crochet motifs (the granny and the virus) and combined them into something unexpected.

#3 – Call the Midwife Blanket

I love the vintage look of this crocheted baby blanket with its repeating motif. It was the inspiration for my Call the Veterinarian blanket pattern.

Very simple, very elegant. The repeating motif is therapeutic to crochet- so get in the zone and get hooking!

#4 – Rainbow Ripple by Celeste Young

I absolutely love the simplicity of this blanket and it gives such an amazing effect. Super playful and a myriad of colour combinations that can be used!

I made one of these recently as a Christening gift and it went down a storm. Mine was blue and white for a little boy, but imagine how many variations there could be!

The best part is that this pattern only requires knowledge of treble crochet (US double crochet) and chain stitches! Winner!

#5 – Daisy Chain Blanket by Harlow Monroe Handmade

This one is for the more adventurous beginners out there. Stitch count is imperative but it’s a great graduation into something more advanced. There’s some increasing and decreasing involved here but the end result definitely pays off and the instructions are easy to understand.

#6 – Hope Chevron Blanket by Ashley Leither

Simplicity sometimes can make a huge impact. Which is great for any beginner! Get into the crochet zone and you’ll have yourself a beautiful no-fuss Chevron blanket in no time- all ready to wrap up a little baby!

#7 – Polka Dot Baby Blanket by Marty Miller

How adorable is this beauty? It’s a simple blanket with gentle appliqué decoration. It’s a great introduction to anyone looking to learn how to crochet in the round and make circles and perfect practise for anyone who’s working on making their beginner blankets less wonky (don’t forget you need to crochet into that final chain)!

All colour combinations are possible and this is one hell of an easy make!
