How is Christmas upon us already?! It feels like this year has BLOWN past. I’m finally back from my ‘big holiday’ of the year to Egypt, and I can’t believe it took me until November to take it. While I did pack a few yarn-y bits to keep me entertained, I definitely didn’t pack enough. So if you’re looking for a gift to get your travelling fibre friend, here are some suggestions that I hope can help you.

PS- the Etsy Gift guide might be able to help you if none of these quite tickle your fancy. Find the guide here.

#1 – Travel Journal

While you might be a keen diarist, for those of you who aren’t, trust me – its super helpful to have a pen and paper on hand to keep track of important pattern notes. Whats your row count, what have you got left to complete? Going old school is the new school, and how cute is this journal?

#2 – Row Counter

I am extremely biased, as I did just place a HUGE order from Twill & Print. Because how couldn’t I when their products are as cute as this Row Counter? Pin it to your project bag for easy row counting and you can sit back and relax on holiday without having to worry you’ve miscounted.

#3 – Travel Scissors

Scissors you can stick in your hand luggage?* Yes please! Dont find yourself scrambling around to cut the ends off your project or to rejoin yarn – I’ve found myself using my housekeys and it is a NIGHTMARE. These beauties have a little tassle and carry-case so they will always be close at hand.

*Always check with the airline/airport first.

#4 – Cable Needle

But not just any cable needle! This cable-needle-cum-shawl-pin is blunt enough to act as a stitch marker, and cable needle and be ready in an emergency when you find you need a shawl over your shoulders when the hot days turn to chillier evenings. You’ll be so glad you packed this.

#5 – Storage Tin

When you’re lying in a sun lounger, you’ll be glad that your stitch markers are not only close at hand, but also not lost down the back of the lounger, or under your towel or butt (as I found most of mine). Rather than shimmying around trying to keep them all close, or trying to keep them from escaping from your project bag, invest in a little tin to keep them in- you can thank me later!

#6 – Travel Yarn Bag

I’m always worried my day-to-day project bags will end up damaged or full of sand on holiday- but this bag looks absolutely incredible and a definite way of keeping me organised while I am away. Plus, the cute slogan means EVERYONE would know I am a yarn boss – even if they don’t recognise that I’ve been wearing my own handmades the whole trip!

#7 – Travel Sewing Kit

The items above not quite tickling your fancy? Get a set of all the essentials in this great little sewing kit. You’ve got needles to weave in ends, as well as mini scissors, to make sure that you won’t ever be stuck with an unfinished WIP.

#8 – Travel Project Tin

Everything you could possibly need – from scissors, to stitch holders and markers- even a cute little wooden needle gauge. This is the ultimate in fuss-free travel. Its gone into my shopping basket already for my next holiday (whenever that may be!). You’ll be covered for both knitting AND crochet while you’re away, so nab this up while you can.

Hoping you find exactly what you’ve been looking for this festive season, and don’t forget to check out my Etsy store here for some great (if I do say so myself) stocking fillers! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and wishing you an amazing 2023. Thanks for supporting me on this yarn journey so far.

Love,

Aly
