I was going crazy trying to make my new house feel like a home in the fastest time posible. While I can’t tackle the whole house and get it perfect all in one go, having my little Snug all completed has made for a huge positive shift in my mental health.

When I used to work in the West Midlands, I used to drive past a village called Pink Green on my way home. I absolutely loved it as a village name, but admittedly, never thought of it as a good color combination. Oh but how wrong I was! If you’ve read this post you’ll see why I chose the colours that I did, but this is the time for the accessories to shine!

The room started its life out as a little girls’ bedroom under the previous owners, and I felt like having this amazing West-facing room would be wasted on a spare bedroom when (especially during Covid-times), I’m less likely to have guests. I’m opting for a sofa bed in the office, which you can read about when I get round to doing it (soon!).

And so the grey was painted over and the snug was born! Lots of natural light, warmth, and textures: everything a great room should be!

Disclaimer: this room still isn’t 100% done, but that’s because my thirst for new accessories is unquenchable!

I’ve always been one to love ‘matchy-matchy’ but not when it comes to cushions. There are just so many great designs out there that it’s hard to choose just one. There’s a fine art to picking accessories – on one hand, you want them to match the room, but you want them to be unique enough to stand out on their own.

The cat cushion above was an impulse sale purchase from Next. It’s a beautiful pinky-orange linen-style cushion with embroidered cats. The fun texture gives it uniqueness, and while the background colour isn’t the main feature here it means the cushion does suit the room.

I’ve propped it up against a purple velvet cushion from M&S to give it that extra layer of oomph and make it stand out a bit more. Too many graphics can be overwhelming, so the solid cushions I’ve used throughout the room draw the eye to the right places.

I can’t be without my knitting needles (or crochet hooks for that matter!) so having a tray to keep everything in one place is a must-have for me. This water hyacinth woven tray is my little treasure from Dunelm. My Chiaogoo’s stay looked after and in prime reaching-place.

As if I needed a reminder that living room time was not ‘work-time’, this cushion from Dunelm reminds me that while I’m in my little snuggly sanctuary, I am OUT OF THE OFFICE. Which is a great feeling!

I was picking up an online order and walked past this cushion in-store. I sat in the car a good 10 minutes trying to talk myself out of it, but in the end, I just couldn’t. The texture ties in well with the tray and the wicker baskets I have nestled around the room. While it was originally designed as an outdoor piece, I think it’ll enjoy its new life in my snug.

*PS – I can’t find this cushion anywhere online, even at the time of purchase, so I think it was an in-store jobby only!

Bringing a little glitz to the room is another cushion from M&S that I especially love as a) it’s my favourite colour, and b) its Jacquard fabric brings a little hint of art deco to the room (It also matches the sofa I have downstairs!) I love the unity that my pieces can bring from across the house, and that they aren’t just focused on one room.

On the windowsill behind, you’ll find 2 other M&S finds – this gorgeous vase and elephant planter. Elephants bring luck, so I was glad to accommodate this one in the Snug with its cute little (real) succulent! The vase is practical for me, as with working away I can find it hard to either keep cut flowers or have enough time to admire them before they need throwing out. Having such a bold printed vase, makes it look full year-round. Low maintenance and beautiful – just what I look for in an accessory!

I really am never one to stray away from fluff and fur! My Instagram profile even says it: I love anything pink, sparkly, and fluffy. Now the risk is, being 30 years old, going too much of any of these things can quickly make a room seem garish and childlike. So it was important to only bring in little hints of fluff here and there to bring my love of softness into the snug without detracting from the other beautiful pieces.

Again, another impulse purchase from B&Q meant I sat in my car for 10 minutes debating if I really should be buying another cushion for this room, but as I said from the get-go, I wanted this room to be an hommage to the 1970s in a more modern style. I don’t know what’s more 70s print than this pink and orange flower cushion?! It matches perfectly with my ASDA ‘Let the Good Times be Gin!’ cushion (because I had to have an element of pun!) and they both lie next to a little fluffy boudoir cushion from Dunelm, that matches the (handmade) fur pouffe.

If you’d like a similar pouffe though, this one from Dunelm is perfect!

This room takes on a Split-Complimentary colour pallette, predominantly down to the pink and green walls. On their own, the pink and green shade wouldn’t invoke that feeling of nature and warmth without the addition of the oranges and browns. These come in the form of the wicker baskets under the TV cabinet (IKEA Kallax) and the water hyacinth tray. There’s hints of oranges in the cushions – tassels, piping etc. – which take the paint colours from cold to warm.

You might remember this post, which matched me to my perfect house colour pallette.

The ceiling light is from The Range and brings with it a little sun sparkle and movement to the room with its moving pieces that catch the light beautifully in what is already an incredibly bright and vibrant space. Mona the Monstera cannot not be mentioned as she stands tall in the corner in a nice white B&Q pot, and I’m hoping she grows into a beautiful canopy over the sofa in time.

I can’t wait to introduce a rug into this room (if anything to hide the giant coffee stain I created when I accidentally kicked over my freshly made coffee while painting the ceiling) and some wall art – again I’m thinking I’m going to go with natural fibres in round, organic shapes.

I’ve also left some space so that when pennies allow, I can replace my piano with a more modern white number so that this room really becomes an intimate and snuggly hang-out spot for myself (and a select few others).

How do you like my Snug? What would you add? I can’t wait to get started on the next room. Let me know in the comments below what you think I should tackle next!
